A.M: Digi pack designs

I have started to create some mock up front cover designs for our digi pack.

I have chosen an image of  our main character in the music video. The colours in this image are very vibrant and eye-catching.

First I have increased the saturation of the image and changed the brightness and contrast. Then I have experimented with placing the text in different areas of the cover to see what looks best.

I placed the text at the bottom of the cover to begin with. I have used the same font which snakehips use for all of there album artwork. I like the use of a strip across the album cover as it makes the title stand out and look bold.

Here I have made the text white on one cover and black on the other. Using the white text is more appropriate as this is what previous snakehips album cover artwork has looked like. Also it looks very clean and sleek in white.

For this cover I made the text black and white and left the rest of the cover saturated. As you can see the text isn't clear at all and is barely readable over the t shirt. If we were to use this technique a different image would have to be chosen.

This is the cover in black and white. However I think colour looks better for this front cover image.

Here I have found another image and placed the white text at the bottom again. I have tried to imitate a technique used on previous snakehips artwork by blurring the image which is shown below.

I think this looks very effective and is one of my favourite designs. It is bold  and makes the title of the single very clear. It is also very eyecatching and interesting to look at due to the colours.

This is the same image below but less blurred so that you can make out it is the main character on the front of the cover. However I think that the enhanced blurring looks better.

I thought w could use this image for the back of our digipack. It looks very effective with the two characters standing at the edge of the image and the text could be placed in the middle of the two girls.

Group: First Rough Cut

We showed the class a rough cut of what we had edited so far and they gave us some feedback of what they thought.

Feedback from class:

• The rooftop location is very relevant and works really well with our concept, especially the shot with the plastic graffitied tunnel.
• The tracking shot at the beginning was very effective at positioning the audience with the main character and creating an enigmatic atmosphere.
• One of their favourite shots was the pull focus of his hand on the edge.
• There was a good mixture of shots and angles and wide range of distances.
• The establishing shot we included does not fit with the stylised aesthetic.

Group:17th November shoot evaluation

We booked the PAC out for after school to make sure that we would be the only people there and that no one would distract us or hinder our filming in any way. By doing the shoot after school we were able to organise our actor, Isaac, to come and meet us.

We shot in the PAC because we could use the different performance lighting that Danielle knew how to use. However their were some problems with the greenscreen in that the lights we used came from a single source and from above meaning that it cast a shadow against the green backdrop we were using. We knew that this would be a problem when chroma keying out the colour in Premier. To fix this we turned the main lights on as well as the spotlight to reduce the shadow put make sure his face was lit well.

We used the laser and strobe lights again, the same as when we shot the dancers. The PAC is excluded from light so it meant we could completely black out the room so the lasers and strobe make a crisp shadow against the black painted wall.

Group: Mrs Fernandez feedback to current video edit

- The shot with him putting his hands over his head- wobbly, maybe use a tiny bit of it
- Cut so there's cam movement
- Tidy it up
- Should keep it stylistic
- Really select - dancers shouldn't be engaging with him KEEP CONSISTANT
- Don't have the lip syncing just once, use it a few times
- Stillness when he's feeling sad (re shoot ??)

Risk Assessment

We have carefully considered all the risks that have the potential to occur on the day of shooting so that we can avoid them. We want to make sure that all our equipment, our actors and ourselves are safe.

It was easiest to get our dancers to shoot in the PAC at lunchtime because it meant that they didn't have to give up much of their free time and we knew that they would be in school anyway so it was very easy to make sure they arrived on time.

We had a few problems being that there was a drama club in the main part that we wanted to film in so we closed the curtains to the performance area and were allowed to divide up the room so we could both use it. We had to be careful with noise so we didn't disturb the club.

Shooting only took 20 minutes which was perfect because some of the dancers were late and it limited the time we had to shoot. We managed to get all shots that we planned for and they looked really great.
