D.B: Narrative Video Analysis

Director - Joe Elliot

Crashing water from stream is the opening shot

Their symbol of the lions head is the next shot with blurred lights in the background.

Psychedelic and kaleidoscope-like images when she is drugged to symbolise that she is high and cannot see or distinguish objects normally. The people appear to be screaming at her when we are given a POV shot even though, when the audience is shown what is really happening, they can see that this is false signifying further how unable she is to defend herself and instead lies helplessly on the bed.

The letter on the table signifies motive for the actions of the kidnappers.

Repeating of the road lines and shots of the country side and sky connote the fact that the kidnappers are driving far away, collapse time in order to fit with the song and position the audience with the girl because of the confusion and unknowing of where they are or where they are going

The fire simultaneously connotes a sense of warmth and life when juxtaposed with the shivering girl; and danger and pain from the commonplace association fire can bring. The fire is intended to add a sense of threat but the feeling of danger with the audience is subdued from the fact that it is shot in slow motion and a peaceful and beautiful aspect is brought in instead.

Rolling clouds and the rising sun expresses that a new day will bring new hope and the golden sunshine depicts a silver lining and the audience feels more at ease and comforted by the beautiful imagery

One of the kidnappers who is depicted as more menacing than the other, who is given a image that he does not really want to be comiting the crime and sympathises for the kidnapped girl, stabs a wooden stake into a tree...

Iconic Signs

  1. I like the shots of the fire and how they have been used to connote a sense a warmth. Maybe we could use this aspect in our final video.
