The feet of the 2 back runners

The majority of my inspiration taken from this video is when the shots suddenly change from realistic portrayals of the world to becoming slow motion and filled with saturated colour. Magical realism is incorporated to create wonder in these seemingly normal events.

Synaesthesia is created when the shots become slow motion because the music becomes slightly more intense and slower. The beginning 4 shots foreshadow the most chaotic moments in the video and I thought it added more depth. We have decided to take inspiration from this technique by adding saturated flashbacks into our music video.

The shots in this video are mainly very short because the song is fast paced and so is the action that they are representing. This is something that is very relevant to our track and I didn’t realise how many shots we would actually need to fill in the time our song is. I understand now how utterly important it is that we not only get every shot that we plan to but also some extra shots in case we make a mistake and decide to cut a certain shot shorter and then no longer have enough footage.

With all the running shots the camera moved with the characters whether that meant it tracked in front of or behind them or panned to follow them as they ran past the camera. This meant that the audience felt part of the action and felt as though they were moving as well, exaggerating the movement. This is incredibly relevant for our concept for when we are filming the dancers it will be much more effective if the camera is always moving.

Rule of thirds
All of the transitions used were straightforward cuts, which is probably something we will copy throughout most of our video. The rule of thirds is kept when the shots become hyper saturated and in slow motion because they are trying to create shots of exaggerated beauty whereas most of the shots of the guys running had them centred in order to show the guy ahead as well as the 2 behind him.

  1. Well done, this is a very detailed technical analysis. Make sure you explicitly link all research to your concept development.
